How to Make White Chocolate Matcha Frappuccino

I’m thrilled to share this recipe for two reasons: my love for matcha and white chocolate, and the anticipation of wrapping up the year with this post.

It’s been a peculiar and challenging year, filled with moments of missing loved ones and longing for the familiar. Yet, amidst the chaos, it’s been heartwarming to witness the growth of our Sal+Pimenta community and to connect with passionate ramen enthusiasts, Japan aficionados, fellow moms, and cooking enthusiasts from around the world.

Sal+Pimienta has evolved from a cooking blog into a vibrant community, all thanks to you.

Here’s to hoping that 2021 brings health, joy, and fulfillment, along with a plethora of delectable Japanese recipes. Happy New Year!

Types of Matcha

While Starbucks uses matcha with added sugar, I recommend using authentic matcha for its pure flavor. There are various grades of matcha, ranging from ceremonial to latte grade. For this recipe, latte grade matcha works well due to the added sweetness from the syrup.

Frappuccino Recipe – The Milk

As you’ll soon see, this drink has a LOT of ice. So to avoid ending up with a frappuccino that tastes like water, I recommend opting for whole milk. If you’re looking for a lactose-free option, you can opt for soy milk.

White Chocolate Sauce

Prepare to be dazzled by the luscious white chocolate sauce used in this recipe. While store-bought options are available, I encourage you to make it at home with just three ingredients: cream, white chocolate, and butter. It’s irresistibly delicious and takes just 10 minutes to whip up.

Vanilla syrup

Vanilla syrup adds a delightful hint of sweetness to this frappuccino. Easily accessible in most supermarkets, you can even opt for a sugar-free version for a lighter indulgence.

Xanthan Gum

As demonstrated in the video, Starbucks frappuccinos are made with a syrup and xanthan gum mixture. This helps create the signature creamy texture and prevents separation. While you may not find the Starbucks base, xanthan gum powder mixed with water can achieve the same effect.

Is it necessary? And is it safe?

Xanthan gum is a commonly used food additive in gluten-free cooking and is safe for consumption. It’s readily available online or in specialty stores. For the smoothest and creamiest frappuccino, I recommend not skipping the xanthan gum.

White Chocolate Sauce

  • 200 grams of white chocolate
  • 120 ml havy cream
  • 10 g butter

Whipped Cream (Serves 1 Frappuccino)

  • 80 ml Cream / Heavy Cream To assemble
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla syrup If you like it sweeter, you can add more
  • 1/2 tsp White Chocolate Sauce If you like it sweeter, you can add more

Frappuccino (Large)

  • 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
  • 240 ml milk
  • 1 tsp Matcha or at ease
  • 2 tbsp vanilla syrup
  • 1 tbsp White Chocolate Sauce
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 tbsp water

White Chocolate Sauce

  • Chop the chocolate into small pieces.
  • Then, heat the cream in a saucepan. Once it begins to boil, remove it from the heat and add the chopped white chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and incorporated into the cream.
  • Once the chocolate is well mixed, add the butter and continue stirring until it is completely melted and blended with the chocolate mixture.

Whipped cream

  • With the white chocolate sauce already prepared, I like to elevate this frappuccino by sweetening the whipped cream with vanilla syrup and white chocolate sauce.
  • Simply combine the cream, syrup, and white chocolate sauce in a bowl. Whip until stiff peaks form. Adjust the sweetness to your taste by adding more or less syrup as needed.

Frappuccino de Matcha

  • Start by preparing the frappuccino base by mixing the xanthan gum with a tablespoon of water. If there are any lumps, don't worry.
  • In a blender, combine the milk, frappuccino base, matcha, vanilla syrup, white chocolate sauce, and ice.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into a glass and top with the whipped cream. Enjoy!
